Sales spike in the wake of singers death

In the wake of Whitney Houston’s untimely death, an astonishing 27 of her songs look set to chart inside the top 200 this weekend.

Three of the late songstress’s albums are also on course to crack into the Official Albums Chart top 200 on Sunday, including ‘The Greatest Hits’ inside the top 10.

Leading the singles surge is Whitney’s cover of the Dolly Parton classic ‘I Will Always Love You’ which currently resides at number 10.

According to the Official Charts Company, ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ is next in line at number 13, with One Moment In Time (25), My Love Is Your Love (28), I Have Nothing (30), Saving All My Love For You (37), and How Will I Know (38) completing the Top 40.

Official Charts Company managing director, Martin Talbot, said: “The tragic death of Whitney Houston came as a shock to her friends, colleagues and music fans across the world.

“Again, the British public is demonstrating its love of Whitney, just as it did for Amy Winehouse last year and Michael Jackson in 2009 – and the Official Charts will reflect that this weekend and, no doubt, in the coming weeks.”

Whitney was discovered dead in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon (11th February) at the age of 48. The exact cause of her death is yet to be ascertained.
