Sony Apologises For Whitney Price Hike
Story Highlight
In the wake of the singers death
Sony Music has apologised for the ‘mistake’ of hiking up the cost of Whitney Houston albums on iTunes in the wake of her death on Saturday (11th February).
The day after the singer's death, the price of compilation album ‘The Ultimate Collection’ shot from £4.99 to £7.99 while ‘The Greatest Hits’ leaped from £7.99 to £9.99.
The price increase angered fans and Labour MP Chris Bryant also slammed the move, tweeting: "Pretty despicable of Sony to increase the cost of Whitney Houston album by 60% just hours after her death."
Now, in a brief statement, Sony Music has said that the ‘mistake’ was their own fault and nothing to do with iTunes.
They said: "Whitney Houston product was mistakenly mispriced on the UK iTunes store on Sunday. When discovered, the mistake was immediately corrected. We apologize for any offense caused."
Whitney is posthumously on course to have 27 songs enter the official UK top 200 this weekend and three of her albums are also expected to chart highly.
The singing legend’s funeral is set to take place at the New Hope Baptist Church in New Jersey this Saturday. Her family have requested privacy at the ceremony.
